Easter is three weeks away, and Ukrainians are already thinking about how much they will have to shell out for traditional dishes in their holiday basket this year. And it looks like the holiday of the bright Resurrection will not be cheap again.
Analysts are already predicting that in 2025, an Easter basket will cost more than last year. There are several reasons for the price increase: rising energy prices, inflation, higher prices for dairy products, and seasonal demand. According to Maksym Hopka, an expert at the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club, Easter eggs and dairy products, as well as eggs, will increase in price the most. These components are key to the festive table.
According to the forecasts of the Ukrainian Agricultural and Food Safety Agency, in addition to seasonality, the price of eggs will also be affected by the price of bird feed. If weather conditions are favorable, in April the price of eggs may decrease by 25-30%, but until then - only fluctuations within 5-8 UAH from today's level.
To avoid being at the epicenter of the pre-Easter rush, analysts advise purchasing some products in advance. Meat can be frozen, sausages can be stored in airtight packaging, and the ingredients for Easter cakes — flour, butter, sugar — have a long shelf life.
As of the end of March, prices look like this: pork shoulder costs from 159 to 184 UAH per kg, sausage - from 119 UAH per 200 g to over 590 UAH per kg. Flour, although it has become slightly cheaper, costs an average of 23–26 UAH/kg, butter - about 100–110 UAH per 180 g pack, and sugar - within 32–35 UAH/kg.
Prices are expected to rise even closer to the holiday, so planning your purchases is not just a way to save money, but also a way to avoid lines and stress.
The conclusion is obvious: Easter baskets in 2025 will not be an exception to the general increase in the price of products in Ukraine. However, foresight and advance preparation can help reduce the financial burden - without compromising the taste and festive atmosphere.
