How to apply for online pension payments abroad

In light of the war in Ukraine and the numerous challenges it has brought, Ukrainians who have gone abroad and received temporary protection can remotely apply for or restore their pension payments. According to the Ministry of Reintegration, this process can be completed online through the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) portal.

Who can apply for a pension?

Citizens who have reached retirement age can apply for a pension for the first time, as well as those whose payments were suspended during martial law. This innovation allows Ukrainians to maintain financial stability despite being outside the country.

How to apply for a pension online?

To remotely apply for or renew your pension, you need to follow a few simple steps:

  1. Obtaining an electronic signature (ES) : This is the first step that provides access to all functions of the electronic account.
  2. Log in to your personal account on the PFU portal : Log in to your account using the received electronic signature.
  3. Applying for a pension : In the “About pension provision” section, select the “Pension application” tab and select the appropriate type of pension (for example, old-age pension).
  4. Filling out the form : Enter all the required information.
  5. Adding documents : Attach scanned copies of documents (passport, identification code, temporary protection document, etc.).
  6. Data verification : Make sure the entered information is correct and sign the application using the electronic signature.
  7. Submitting an application : Submit an electronic application to PFU.

After that, information about the processing of your application and the corresponding decision will be available in your personal account.

Postal registration of pension

For those who prefer traditional methods, it is possible to receive your pension by mail. Here is the procedure:

  1. Obtaining temporary protection documents : Contact the competent authorities of your country of residence to obtain the necessary documents.
  2. Translation and legalization : All documents must be translated and legalized through the nearest Consulate of Ukraine.
  3. Writing an application : Compile an application for receiving or restoring a pension, attaching translated and legalized documents.
  4. Sending by mail : Send the application along with documents to the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU).

This system allows Ukrainians abroad not only to maintain access to their pension payments, but also to simplify the registration procedures. Despite the challenges associated with the war, Ukrainians have the opportunity to ensure their financial stability thanks to convenient online tools and traditional methods of submitting documents.
