How to prevent kidney stones: advice from doctors

Urolithiasis has long ceased to be an exclusively "adult" problem. It is increasingly diagnosed in children and adolescents. The reasons are not only in heredity, but also in the modern lifestyle. Insufficient water consumption, eating habits, overloading the body with salt, sugar, and chronic physical inactivity - all these are factors that create ideal conditions for the formation of kidney stones.

Doctors emphasize: the key to prevention is in simple everyday things. First of all, it is a drinking regimen. If urine remains dark yellow throughout the day, the body is not getting enough fluids. Regular consumption of clean water is the best way to reduce risks. For most adults, the norm is at least eight glasses a day.

Another important factor is calcium. It is a misconception that calcium provokes the formation of stones. In fact, its deficiency contributes to the accumulation of oxalic acid salts, which form crystalline structures in the kidneys. Therefore, it is important not to give up dairy products and not to neglect vitamin D, which promotes its absorption.

Doctors advise paying special attention to foods high in oxalates. These include beets, sorrel, celery, strawberries, and chocolate. Excessive consumption of these foods, especially in combination with a lack of water, can have negative consequences. A large amount of vitamin C can have the same effect - in the body it is partially transformed into the same oxalates.

Excess salt in the diet is another risk factor. Salt makes the kidneys work harder. The optimal daily intake should not exceed five grams. It is equally important to control sugar intake, especially fructose, which also participates in crystallization processes. Doctors advise giving preference to natural sweeteners, such as honey or stevia.

Physical activity also has a direct impact on the condition of the urinary system. Regular movement improves metabolism, reduces the risk of stagnation and helps the body effectively eliminate excess salts. This is especially important for children who spend more and more time in a sitting position.

Preventing urolithiasis does not require extraordinary efforts, but it does require stability. It is precisely changing daily habits — from drinking to an active lifestyle — that can protect the body from an unpleasant diagnosis, which often returns with complications.
