How to reduce the harm of alcohol during the holidays: a simple recommendation

The winter holidays are traditionally accompanied by hearty feasts with family and friends. However, excessive alcohol consumption often shows its effects the next morning in the form of severe headaches, nausea and general exhaustion. To reduce the risk of a hangover, a British doctor advises to pay attention to a simple but effective product.

According to her, eating cheese before alcohol can help the body get through the festive evening more easily. The intensive care doctor explains that cheese contains a lot of protein, fats and complex carbohydrates. It is these components that “coat” the stomach and slow down the absorption of alcohol into the blood, reducing the load on the body.

The expert notes that cheese can help process alcohol more efficiently and partially protect the liver from the toxic effects of alcohol. In addition, this product helps restore the supply of nutrients that are actively lost during alcohol consumption. These include B vitamins and calcium.

Calcium, according to the doctor, is important for the normal functioning of the nervous system and muscles, while B vitamins play a key role in energy metabolism and general well-being. It is their deficiency that often exacerbates hangover symptoms.

At the same time, doctors emphasize that the safest option for health remains a complete rejection of alcohol. But if the festive feast still involves alcohol, it is worth at least preparing the body and not drinking on an empty stomach.

Separately, doctors explain how different doses of alcohol affect well-being. One or two standard units of alcohol can cause a slight increase in heartbeat and a feeling of relaxation. After four to six units, the nervous system begins to suffer - the reaction slows down and the ability to make informed decisions deteriorates.

The critical limit is considered to be eight units of alcohol. At this amount, the liver does not have time to process toxins overnight, which almost guarantees a difficult morning with problems with sleep, vision and concentration. Exceeding ten units can lead to serious intoxication with impaired coordination, nausea, severe dehydration and acute headache.

So, a simple cheese plate before a holiday party is not a panacea, but it can significantly reduce the negative effects of alcohol and make the morning after the holidays much easier.
