In the past, many people would unplug all electrical appliances to save energy. However, today, experts warn that some devices should be left plugged in all the time, as frequent disconnections can damage their electronics and lead to expensive repairs.
Seven devices that are not recommended to be disconnected:
-
Refrigerators with No Frost are designed for continuous operation. Frequent shutdowns disrupt the circulation of the refrigerant and reduce the compressor's lifespan.
-
Televisions – even with surge protection, frequent reboots can damage electronic components.
-
Computers and laptops – it is safer to put them into sleep mode or use a UPS than to unplug them every day.
-
Audio systems – modern speakers and soundbars automatically switch to energy-saving mode, so additional shutdown is not required.
-
Voltage stabilizers and power filters are designed to constantly protect equipment; simply turn them off with a button on the case.
-
Inkjet printers – every time they are turned on, they waste ink on cleaning the print head.
-
Routers and Smart Home systems require continuous power supply for stable operation.
Experts also advise using uninterruptible power supplies or stabilizers and monitoring the condition of home wiring to minimize the risk of breakdowns.
