Declaration of the rector of KhPI: high salary, gifts and dubious tenders

The rector of the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" Yevhen Sokol declared receiving a tourist voucher worth 500 thousand hryvnias with his wife. The gift was made by the rector's son - each family member received a voucher worth 250 thousand hryvnias, which allowed them to visit hotels at the donor's expense.

Last year, Yevhen Sokol earned over 700,000 hryvnias in salary and received 277,000 hryvnias in pension. His wife declared 111,000 hryvnias in pension. The couple's total savings in bank accounts amounted to 130,000 dollars, and the rector owns a Toyota Camry.

The context of the gift is causing public outcry: recent investigations have shown systemic violations in the use of state funds by the university. During repairs and thermal modernization of KhPI buildings, tenders were often concluded with controlled private individuals at inflated prices, which allowed the appropriation of state funds.

In particular, sole proprietor Nataliya Kovaleva unjustly won the tender for the development of scientific and technical documentation for the thermal modernization of the electrical building worth 1.85 million hryvnias. The work was financed by the state budget and loans from the European Investment Bank, which emphasizes the lack of transparency and the risk of corruption in the university's management.

The declaration of the rector of KhPI demonstrates the high family income and expensive gifts received by his family members. Combined with the scandals in the field of tenders, this calls into question the transparency of the use of public funds and the effectiveness of control over the activities of the educational institution's management.
