In Ukraine, checks of postgraduate education applicants are ongoing, and about 3 thousand people who entered in 2023 have already been excluded. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykhailo Vinnytskyi in a comment to News.LIVE.
According to the official, a significant number of young people enrolled in graduate school in 2022–2023 not for the sake of science, but in order to receive a deferment from mobilization. However, many of them are now not completing their educational programs, which is why they have been expelled.
“Today, these inspections continue. We will see a fairly large number of those who will be expelled for failing to fulfill their educational or individual plans based on the results of the sessions that will be held in June,” Vinnytskyi explained.
He emphasized that this is not a mass "witch hunt," but rather a cleansing of graduate schools from those who misuse their status as a degree holder. If a graduate student is actively engaged in research, passes exams, and attends classes, there will be no complaints against him.
Unfortunately, according to the Deputy Minister, a large portion of graduate students who enrolled during the war will likely not make it to the defense of their dissertations.
Earlier, Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi assured that the mobilization of students, postgraduates, and scientists who are eligible for a deferral is not planned, and such issues are not being discussed at the government level.
