In the center of Kyiv, one of the oldest buildings on Reitarska Street — a historic wing in the "Crows' Yard" — is under threat. According to monument keeper Dmytro Perov, the building's owner has presented a project for a modern superstructure that could ruin the authentic appearance of the building.
According to Perov, the superstructure project has already been submitted by the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration for approval to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.
The activist recalled that a fire broke out in the old outbuilding on October 5. And between October 15 and 22, the owners conducted a technical inspection, which confirmed the damage to the roof and internal structures.
"On October 23, the owner submitted a "renovation" project with an addition to the Department. The director of the department, Marina Solovyova, explained that she could not reject the document, since the building officially does not have the status of an architectural monument," Perov noted.
Despite this, historical research confirms that the two-story building is one of the oldest on Reitarska and has preserved its original appearance. The public fears that the modern superstructure will completely destroy the authenticity of the historic courtyard, which is a landmark for Kyiv residents.
