Russia has launched about 3,800 kamikaze drones over Ukraine since September 2022, said Yuriy Ignat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force. These drones are used by the Russians as strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
“About 3,800 kamikaze drones have been launched across the territory of our state, if we update the information, since September last year, when strike UAVs began to be used,” said Ignat.
It was noted that the Ukrainian military managed to shoot down about 3,000 kamikaze drones. He also emphasized that Ukraine's air defense is being strengthened with Western weapons, but more modern means are needed to combat strike UAVs.
“About 3,000 of these drones have been destroyed by the Defence Forces. There is something to think about. We still need more systems that will work against strike UAVs,” he added.
The night attack was recorded in various regions of Ukraine, where enemy kamikaze drones were heading towards Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia and Kyiv regions. Of the 49 drones launched, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 21. After the attack, the Russians also hit Kharkiv with “shaheeds”, causing explosions in the city center.
It is important to note that the fall of debris from downed drones led to a fire at a critical infrastructure facility in the Kyiv region.
