Since September 2022, Russia has released about 3,800 kamikaze drones over Ukraine, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yuriy Ignat, said. These drones are used by the Russians as attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
"Kamikaze drones on the territory of our state, if we update the information, about 3,800 have already been launched since September of last year, when they started using attack UAVs," Ignat said.
It is noted that the Ukrainian military managed to shoot down about 3,000 kamikaze drones. He also emphasized that Ukraine's air defense is being strengthened by Western weapons, but more modern means are needed to combat UAVs.
"About 3,000 thousand of these drones were destroyed by the Defense Forces. There is something to think about. We still need more systems that will work against attack UAVs,” he added.
The night attack was recorded in various regions of Ukraine, where enemy kamikaze drones were directed to the Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya and Kyiv regions. Out of 49 launched drones, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 21. After the attack, the Russians also hit Kharkiv with "shahedas", causing explosions in the city center.
It is important to note that falling fragments of downed drones led to a fire at a critical infrastructure facility in the Kyiv region.
