The High Anti-Corruption Court sentenced Ihor Shcherbina, former godfather of Roman Truba, former director of the State Bureau of Investigation, and ex-head of the Main Investigative Department of the General Prosecutor's Office, to 6 years in prison with confiscation of property. The decision was made by the panel of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court on June 26.
The court found Shcherbina guilty of committing criminal offenses in accordance with parts 4 and 27 of article 190, part 2 of article 15, part 4 of article 369 and part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sentence provides for imprisonment for 6 years with confiscation of property, with the exception of the ownership share in one of the apartments, as well as deprivation of the class rank of senior advisor of justice, assigned by the order of the general prosecutor dated August 11, 2006.
Shcherbina was taken into custody immediately after the verdict was announced, and the decision can now be appealed to the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court within 30 days. The verdict was handed down by a panel consisting of: presiding officer Ihor Strogiy, judges Lesya Fedorak and Viktor Maslov. The decision has not entered into legal force and can be appealed to the Chamber of Appeals of the VAKS within 30 days.
According to the indictment, Shcherbin was caught demanding $150,000 in illegal profits through businessman Valentyn Shevchenko, who acted as an intermediary in the payment of a bribe in a conspiracy with a capital developer to close criminal proceedings conducted against the developer company by the territorial administration of the DBR.
