A 36-year-old man who had been on the international wanted list for several years for a number of crimes has been extradited to Ukraine, the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine reports.
As law enforcement officers established, the man had a previous criminal record and was a co-organizer of a criminal group engaged in illegal gambling. The police shut down the underground establishment in August 2022.
In addition, in January 2022, together with his accomplices, he organized a meeting with one of the dissatisfied casino customers. He demanded to pay out part of his winnings, but instead he was beaten and almost 60 thousand hryvnias were taken away.
According to police, the defendant spread criminal influence by controlling the activities of groups involved in committing crimes in the Zhytomyr region. He controlled the distribution of funds for "support" of convicts in correctional institutions in the region and took measures to eliminate competitors in the gambling business.
The man was informed of the suspicion. He faces seven to ten years in prison with confiscation of property.
