Ukrainian gymnast Ilya Kovtun won a silver medal in the parallel bars event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This is Ukraine's first-ever medal in artistic gymnastics at the Olympic Games.
Kovtun competed in the final with Oleg Vernyaev, and both athletes competed against strong opponents, including 2024 Olympic all-around silver medalist Zhang Boheng, as well as previous parallel bars medalists, including Zou Jinyuan of China, Lukas Dauser of Germany, and Ferhat Arikan of Turkey.
The final results of the competition were as follows:
- Zou Jinyuan (China) – 16.200 points
- Ilya Kovtun (Ukraine) – 15,500 points
- Shinnosuke Oka (Japan) – 15,300 points…
- Oleg Vernyaev (Ukraine) – 13,300 points
Thanks to this achievement, Ukraine won a medal in this discipline at the Olympics for the first time, adding another significant victory to the history of Ukrainian sports.
