In Berdychiv, a court sentenced a couple for stealing leather jackets

The Berdychiv City District Court has issued a verdict in the case of a couple who committed a theft from a clothing store during martial law. The incident occurred in March of this year.

According to the case file, the woman tried on several leather jackets and left the store in one of them without paying. Meanwhile, her husband also took the jacket and tried to take it out of the store, but was quickly stopped and returned the goods. The woman fled despite the store owner's demand to return the item, but bystanders prevented her from completing her escape.

The court found that the couple did not act in a prior conspiracy, but each acted independently. The woman was found guilty of a serious crime, while the husband's actions were reclassified as attempted theft (Part 2 of Article 15, Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Both were sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment.

When sentencing, the court took into account a number of mitigating circumstances: sincere remorse, assistance with the investigation, the victim's request not to punish harshly, as well as her husband's serious illness.

The verdict has not yet entered into force and may be appealed (case No. 274/2345/25).
