In Boryspil, a court found a former serviceman of the 79th Airborne Assault Brigade guilty of abuse of influence. The man promised to "help" with his discharge from service through a military medical commission for $10,000. This was reported by "Court Reporter" with reference to the verdict of the Boryspil City District Court dated March 31.
According to the case materials, in 2023, after returning from the front, the accused underwent military service and was officially deregistered from the military register. Through his father, he met a woman who was looking for an opportunity to release an acquaintance from military service on health grounds. It was she who turned to law enforcement with a statement of extortion.
According to the applicant, during the meeting, the man showed a notebook with "thank you" notes from other servicemen and offered to "resolve the issue" for $10,000. He did not name a specific scheme or contacts. As part of the operational development, law enforcement officers made imitation money, which the woman handed over to the defendant near the Boryspil City Council building.
After the case was transferred to court, the charges were somewhat mitigated - signs of extortion were excluded. The accused himself pleaded guilty, sincerely repented and explained that he considered it possible to influence the process, because he himself had recently gone through the deregistration procedure. In the past, he served in the SBU, later worked in the private sector, and since 2022 - has been mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Despite the guilty plea, the court concluded that a lenient sentence would not be effective. The defendant was sentenced to two years in prison.
