A man was detained in Boryspil for extorting $1.2 million from a Kharkiv businesswoman

In Boryspil, Kyiv region, law enforcement officers detained a man suspected of extorting money from a Kharkiv businesswoman.

According to the press service of the National Police of Ukraine, a 51-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia learned that a woman received $1.2 million for a share in her late husband's business. The attacker "terrorized" her for a long time and demanded to hand over the money.

According to the investigation, the man called the businesswoman, referring to a fictitious "debt" of the deceased husband, but did not provide any supporting documents. During one of the visits to the victim's acquaintance, he attached an object resembling a grenade to the woman's car and made a "final warning" over the phone.

On November 12, police conducted searches in Kharkiv, Sumy, Kyiv regions, and Zaporizhia. Mobile phones used for making calls, firearms, grenades, and draft recordings were seized.

The suspect was informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (extortion). The court chose for him a preventive measure in the form of detention. Currently, the police are identifying the full range of persons involved in order to bring them to justice.
