A terrible tragedy occurred in the German city of Friedland: 16-year-old Ukrainian Liana died after being pushed under a freight train.
According to Stern, the incident occurred on August 11. The girl was returning home from school and talking on the phone with her grandfather. Suddenly, he heard screams in the receiver - at that moment, Liana was pushed off the platform directly under the train, which was traveling at a speed of about 100 km/h.
Initially, police treated the tragedy as an accident, and a warrant was issued for a man who was nearby on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter. But later, DNA testing found his traces on the victim's shoulder. After that, the case was reclassified as intentional murder.
The suspect was a 31-year-old migrant named Mohammed. He had already been in the police's sights for aggressive behavior and was even held in a psychiatric clinic with a diagnosis of "paranoid schizophrenia." The man had applied for asylum in Germany, but was rejected and was to be deported to Lithuania.
Law enforcement officers believe that he intentionally pushed the Ukrainian girl off the platform.
The tragedy in Friedland has sparked a wave of outrage among local residents and the Ukrainian community in Germany, with people demanding tighter controls on people with mental health problems and clearer migration policies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
