Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, together with the Security Service of Ukraine and the internal security of the State Border Guard Service, have exposed and detained the deputy head of one of the departments of a law enforcement agency in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The official had established a channel for the sale of confidential information from state databases.
According to the investigation, the law enforcement officer systematically transferred data that constituted a state secret or official information for money. In particular, at the request of clients, he checked individuals for wanted persons, set restrictions on traveling abroad, and found out other classified information. For this, the attacker used his personal access key to official registers.
Since February 2025 alone, the defendant has illegally transferred information about at least 43 people. For this, he received about 2 thousand US dollars.
Law enforcement officers have already been notified of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - extortion and receiving of unlawful benefit by an official. The sanction of this article provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years with confiscation of property.
A petition to the court to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention is currently being prepared. Investigators will also insist on the suspect's removal from office for the duration of the investigation.
