The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has decided to send to court an indictment against a 39-year-old man suspected of conspiracy and assistance in illegally crossing the Ukrainian border.
According to the prosecutor's office, a 39-year-old resident of Kharkiv created an illegal channel for draft evaders to escape. He concluded agreements to enter data on draft evaders into the Shlyakh system as volunteers for a charitable foundation. These individuals did not look much like humanitarian workers on paper.
The man charged $12,000 for his “services.” In addition, he organized briefings for the fugitives, gave them advice, and coordinated actions related to illegal border crossings.
In October 2023, law enforcement officers detained a man in the Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv while he was receiving money from one of the evaders.
The case will be heard in the Moskovsky District Court of Kharkiv. The man faces 7 to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property and a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for three years.
