In Kyiv, police have detained a man who illegally took possession of a bus and caused a traffic accident. The incident occurred on one of the streets of the Sviatoshynskyi district of the capital.
According to law enforcement, a 32-year-old resident of Poltava region, who recently arrived in Kyiv, was in a state of alcohol intoxication. While walking down the street, he noticed a parked Bogdan bus and decided to get behind the wheel.
The investigation established that the man entered the cabin by pushing on the front passenger door. Inside, he found the keys to the ignition, then started the engine and drove off. After driving a short distance, the offender lost control.
As a result, the bus collided with a Toyota and a Mercedes parked nearby, and then crashed into a tree. Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and detained the driver immediately after the accident.
The man was charged with illegal possession of a vehicle. The sanction of the incriminated article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to eight years.
The court has chosen the suspect as a preventive measure in the form of detention. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
