A brutal attack took place in Kyiv: a 69-year-old woman who was hiding in an underpass during an air raid was robbed. The attacker not only forcibly took her bag, but also physically injured her. This was reported by the press service of the capital's police.
The incident occurred when the pensioner was heading to shelter, taking valuables and savings with her. In the subway, she was suddenly attacked by an unknown man who began to beat the woman, after which he snatched her bag with documents, gold jewelry, a phone and money in the amount of 44 thousand hryvnias. After committing the crime, the attacker disappeared from the scene.
“The police received a call and immediately began an investigation. Thanks to the coordinated actions of law enforcement officers, the identity of the attacker was quickly established,” the police statement said.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the crime. He turned out to be a 28-year-old man who had previously served time for similar crimes. Part of the stolen money and the victim's gold jewelry were seized from him.
A criminal case has been opened into the robbery committed under martial law. The detainee was informed of the suspicion and now faces up to 10 years in prison.
This incident is a reminder of the need to be vigilant even in places that seem safe. Police are urging citizens to report suspicious persons in public places, especially during air raids, when criminals can exploit the general panic and defenselessness of people to commit crimes.
"We are working to ensure that criminals receive fair punishment, but at the same time we ask Kyiv residents to be as cautious as possible. Never carry large sums of money with you and do not stay alone in isolated places," law enforcement officers emphasize.
Law enforcement officials reported that the detainee is already in custody, and the investigation is ongoing. The return of all stolen items and money to the victim remains in question, but the police are doing everything possible to bring the criminal to justice.
