A full-scale system for intercepting enemy kamikaze drones using Ukrainian interceptor drones has been launched in Kyiv. The “Clear Sky” project has already shown its effectiveness in pilot mode — in a few months, almost 550 “shaheeds” flying towards the capital have been destroyed.
This was reported by the Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMMA). According to Timur Tkachenko, the initiative is being implemented on the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
" This is not just a technical experiment. This is a new generation of defense infrastructure ," he said.
260 million hryvnias have been allocated for the full deployment of the system. This includes not only the purchase of interceptor drones, but also the creation of a comprehensive air defense architecture for the city:
-
An operator training center is being created, where specialists will learn to fly interceptor drones;
-
Mobile units are being formed that will be on duty in the capital and on its outskirts;
-
Coordination has been established with the General Staff, the PSU, and the Defense Forces for maximum integration with air defense.
The pilot phase of the Clear Sky project has already proven its effectiveness — 550 enemy drones have been intercepted that could have caused destruction or taken human lives.
" These are not just numbers. These are preserved hospitals, schools, energy facilities, residential buildings ," the KMVA emphasizes.
Work is also underway to attract extrabudgetary funding to further scale the system.
" This is an investment in the security of every Kyiv resident. While the enemy is attacking, we are strengthening defense. The sky over Kyiv will be clear ," Timur Tkachenko summed up.
