Kyiv is experiencing significant deterioration in air quality caused by forest fires in the Kyiv region and seasonal temperature fluctuations. According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, these factors have led to an increase in pollutants in the atmosphere.
The probable cause of the temporary deterioration of air quality in the capital is forest fires in the Dubechansky, Novosilkivsky and Fenevytsky forestry districts of the Kyiv region, as well as seasonal temperature changes. This was stated in the press service of the Ministry of Environment on Friday. The department called, in particular, to drink more water and turn on the air purifier to the maximum.
A temporary deterioration of air quality is being recorded in Kyiv. The probable cause of this is forest fires in the Kyiv region and seasonal temperature changes. According to the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”, the localization and liquidation of fires in the Dubechansky, Novosilkivsky and Fenevytsky forestry districts is ongoing in the Kyiv region
The department indicated that in most cases, the cause of forest fires is careless handling of fire: discarded cigarette butts or matches, building fires and careless use of them, work in forest areas (garbage disposal, construction), as well as burning grass in forest clearings.
In addition, every fall, there is an increase in the level of atmospheric air pollution, as temperature differences between day and night cause temperature inversions, which in turn cause the accumulation of harmful substances in the surface layer of the air, the Ministry of Environment added.
Warm air and humidity lead to fog, and harmful substances from various emission sources hardly disperse.
To improve the situation and protect health, the Ministry of Environment recommends:
- close the windows;
- minimize being outdoors;
- drink more water;
- If you have an air purifier, turn it on to maximum.
The state of the air and the radiation background can be monitored in real time on the Ministry of Environment's web resource "Eco-Threat".
