The seasonal migration of bats has begun in the capital, during which these animals travel hundreds of kilometers and can accidentally enter residential premises. This was reported by the Kyiv Animal Rescue Team.
Experts warn: an open window without a screen or a crack in the window can become a trap for bats. Once inside, they are often unable to get out on their own, which can lead to the appearance of an entire colony in the apartment.
Staying indoors is also dangerous for the animals themselves - they can get injured or die, especially if their owners are away for a long time.
Ukraine is home to both resident and migratory bat species: some spend the summer here, others come to winter, and some just fly through the country. All species found in Ukraine are listed in the Red Book, as their population is rapidly declining.
Environmentalists advise residents to take care of both their own homes and wild animals: install screens on windows and close them during vacations. The rescue team urges to spread this information, as it can save the lives of bats.
