Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) in Kyiv discovered the illegal production and sale of counterfeit fuel, which was produced at one of the capital's oil depots. As reported by the press service of the department, the counterfeit was sold through a network of gas stations in the Kyiv region.
During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers conducted authorized searches, as a result of which they seized almost 280,000 liters of illegal fuel. Its estimated value is over 14 million hryvnias.
Forensic examinations have been ordered as part of the case to determine the composition of the fuel. Investigators are identifying the full range of individuals involved in the manufacture, transportation, and sale of excisable products.
The case was opened under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation for the purpose of selling excisable goods.
This is not the first BEB scheme exposed in recent months. In July, law enforcement officers discovered the clandestine production of liquids for electronic cigarettes. In June, the illegal production of alcoholic beverages in the capital. And in March, an alcohol business organized by UOC functionaries in the Kyiv and Rivne regions.
Economic crime remains one of the most pressing challenges for law enforcement agencies, especially in times of war and unstable economies.
