Starting April 1, the number of urban areas where drivers are allowed to accelerate to 80 km/h has been reduced in the capital. The Kyiv City State Administration made this decision after analyzing the accident rate and fatalities on the roads.
Despite the fact that the Kyiv City Council had previously approved a list of 17 streets where it was planned to increase the speed limit, the reality turned out to be much stricter. After a commission survey, the number of such sections was initially reduced to seven, and additional analysis of traffic accident statistics forced the exclusion of three more. Fatal accidents have been recorded on these sections only since the beginning of 2024, so the increase in speed there was considered dangerous.
Therefore, from April 1, the speed limit of 80 km/h applies only in four areas of the capital:
-
Naberezhne highway - from Poshtova Square to Naddnipryansky highway;
-
Roman Shukhevych Avenue - from the Northern Bridge to Honore de Balzac Street;
-
Stepana Bandera Avenue - from Yordanskaya Street to the Northern Bridge;
-
Naberezhno-Rybalska Street - only in one direction, from Elektrykiv Street to the Havana Bridge.
The Kyiv City State Administration emphasized: the restriction was introduced solely to protect the lives and health of citizens. All changes have been agreed with the police and the Department of Transport Infrastructure. Drivers are urged to be especially careful while driving, not to exceed speed limits and strictly follow traffic rules.
