An anesthesiologist has been charged in the case of the tragic death of five-year-old Veles Pashnyk after a procedure to remove baby teeth in Lviv. The investigation found that she worked with children without proper specialized education, using forged documents.
This was announced by the Prosecutor General's Office on February 10. The issue of imposing a preventive measure on the suspect and suspending her from work is currently being considered.
In December 2023, during dental treatment at a private clinic in Lviv, a boy fell into a coma due to erroneous anesthesia tactics. A month later, the child died without regaining consciousness.
The investigation found that the doctor responsible for anesthesia did not have the necessary qualifications to work with children. Although her diploma allowed her to work with adult patients, in August 2023 she purchased a fake certificate as a pediatric anesthesiologist.
The suspect is accused of:
- Provision of medical services without special permission , which led to serious consequences (Article 138 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
- Improper performance of professional duties , which caused the death of the patient (Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
- Forgery of documents and their use (Part 3 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation claims that the doctor knowingly used false documents to get a job at the clinic and perform anesthesia for children, even though she did not have the appropriate training or experience to do so.
The death of Veles Pashnyk came as a shock to the entire country. The tragedy raised questions about the quality control of medical services, the work of private clinics, and the verification of medical workers' documents.
The public demands not only a fair investigation into this case, but also reform of the medical licensing system to prevent such cases from recurring.
This tragedy is a reminder of how important professionalism and responsibility are in the medical field. Fair punishment of the guilty and increased control in the medical industry should be steps to protect the lives of patients.
