The Lviv region is experiencing an increase in the number of visits to doctors due to influenza and acute respiratory viral infections. Among the pathogens most often detected by virologists are influenza, adenovirus, RS virus, and rhinovirus.
Over the past week, 10,593 residents of the region have sought medical attention with symptoms of SARS, compared to 10,058 the week before last. Children make up 43% of the patients. However, experts emphasize that the real number of infected people may be higher, as not everyone seeks medical help.
As reported by the Director General of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Natalia Timko-Ivanchenko, the epidemic threshold has not yet been exceeded, but there is a trend towards an increase in the incidence.
Since the beginning of the 2025–2026 influenza season, 21 deaths have been recorded in the region, including two children. In addition, one child died from RSV and another from adenovirus.
Doctors remind that the flu usually begins suddenly: the body temperature rises, aches in the muscles and bones, headache, sore throat and dry cough appear. Doctors urge not to self-medicate and not to take antibiotics without a specialist's prescription.
For prevention, experts advise dressing according to the weather, avoiding crowded places, regularly ventilating the room, getting enough sleep, eating fortified foods, and practicing hand hygiene and cough etiquette.
Severe complications of viral infections have already been recorded in the region: a 22-year-old student and a 16-year-old teenager were admitted to intensive care. Doctors emphasize that timely medical care can save lives.
