In Odessa, a bank employee robbed a client, taking advantage of her trust and advanced age. The criminal appropriated almost 400 thousand hryvnias from the deposit accounts of an 85-year-old woman. The press service of the National Police reported the incident.
The victim contacted law enforcement after discovering that her savings had disappeared from two bank deposits. During the investigation, police determined that the money had disappeared due to the fault of a 22-year-old bank employee who held the position of chief economist of the retail business department.
The incident occurred at a bank branch in the Primorsky district of Odessa. When the pensioner approached the financial institution to check her accounts, the employee, taking advantage of her age and inattention, replaced the client's financial phone number with her own. After that, she gained full access to the victim's banking application.
After the woman left the bank, an employee logged in on her behalf, closed the deposits, and transferred 394,550 hryvnias to her own card. She later returned some of the funds, but spent most of the money.
The police opened a criminal case on the fact of misappropriation of someone else's property through abuse of official position. The court chose a preventive measure for the defendant - night house arrest.
The criminal faces up to six years in prison and a ban on holding positions in the financial sector for up to three years. Law enforcement officers are continuing the investigation, and the bank is conducting an internal review to prevent similar incidents in the future.
