A scandalous beating incident occurred in Poltava, which is linked to the son of the former head of the regional department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Roman Kyrylenko. On October 18, 23-year-old Nazar Kyrylenko inflicted serious bodily injuries on a 40-year-old man with a wooden croquet bat during curfew. Video of the incident from surveillance cameras quickly spread across social networks.
According to police, Nazar Kyrylenko drove his Toyota Camry into the courtyard of a high-rise building at high speed. He and three companions approached the group of vacationers and, after a verbal conflict, took a wooden bat from the trunk and hit the man in the head, causing the victim to lose consciousness and receive an open head injury.
After the attack, Kyrylenko left the victim and fled with his companions, removing the license plates from the car. The victim received emergency medical care, and Nazar was detained the same day at his parents' house. He was charged under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - intentional grievous bodily harm, dangerous to life, and a preventive measure of 60 days in custody without bail was chosen.
According to the international detective agency Absolution, the Poltava prosecutor's office is trying to limit the legal qualification of Kyrylenko's actions to only Article 121 of the Criminal Code, without reporting on more serious articles - Article 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code, Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code or Article 135 of the Criminal Code, which could qualify the incident as attempted murder and leaving the victim in danger. There is pressure from prosecutors and managers on doctors to form the "necessary" documents and the possible transfer of the case to another region to conceal it.
Additionally, Nazar Kyrylenko allegedly has connections in the Poltava Court of Appeal through former court chairman Serhiy Galyonkin, which raises concerns about the impact on the course of the investigation and justice.
