Contract service in the army is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative to mobilization for Ukrainians. Serhiy Shakhlevich, Head of the Recruitment and Manpower Department of the Transcarpathian Military Territorial Center for Manpower and Social Support (VTCC and SP), emphasized that one of the key advantages of signing a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is the ability to independently choose the place of service and military profession.
“Those who are not waiting for a summons can independently choose the military unit they like. Military service by mobilization, with state distribution, cannot offer this,” said Shakhlevich. Contract workers have the opportunity to change their profession, thanks to operating training centers, which allows them to adapt their skills to the needs of the army.
Not only do contractors receive stable financial security, but they also find comrades and sisters, which is an important aspect of military service. They also have the opportunity to serve in rear units or special transport units, which can reduce the risks associated with direct combat operations.
As for fears of being assigned to the wrong military unit, Shakhlevich believes they are premature. He explained that the military unit sends an appropriate letter of recommendation, thanks to which the contract worker is directed to them, which provides greater confidence in the choice.
Contract service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is becoming not only a way to avoid mobilization, but also an opportunity for Ukrainians to gain new skills and experience by serving in the army on their own terms.
