Criminal proceedings have been opened in the Ternopil region against an official of the Zboriv city council, who is suspected of fraud against war veterans and combatants. This was reported by the press service of the regional police.
According to preliminary investigation data, the official took advantage of the regional program "Care", which provides financial support for defenders, and offered assistance to several veterans. However, during the payment process, he demanded that part of the allocated funds be returned to him in cash.
At least three cases of embezzlement are currently known. The amounts illegally received by the official ranged from 17,000 to 38,000 hryvnias. This money was intended for the treatment and rehabilitation of servicemen, but instead ended up in the official's pocket.
Investigators have classified the actions of the defendant under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as fraud. A pre-trial investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances and the number of victims.
