In Bukovina, in the city of Khotyn, disturbing cases of desecration of the graves of fallen Ukrainian soldiers are being recorded. Unknown individuals are stealing lamps, candles, flower baskets, and in some cases even batteries from lamps. This was reported by the publication “Khotynski Visti” , which received a video from the scene from Natalia, the sister of the fallen Hero Gennady Ryasov.
According to relatives of the fallen, such cases are not uncommon. The disappearance of items from graves at the new Khotyn cemetery occurs regularly, especially near the bypass road.
“My brother Gennady was never greedy, he always helped people. It is low and pitiful to come and take a basket of flowers or a lamp from his grave. The flowers were thrown away, and the basket was taken…”, says Natalia with pain.
She emphasized that she understands the difficult economic situation and does not condemn those who are truly in need. But she urges: if people need something, they should contact them directly, and not rob the final resting places of defenders.
“Write a note, leave a list of what you need — our family will help. But do not offend the Hero of Ukraine and his memory,” Natalia appeals on behalf of the entire family of the deceased.
The local community is shocked and outraged. The soldiers' relatives are asking them not to remain silent and not to let such cases go unpunished, and the police to increase patrols and install surveillance cameras.
