Brutal abuse, systematic torture, and even murder of prisoners – these are the horrific facts uncovered by investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation in “Bozhkovskaya Correctional Colony No. 16” in the Poltava region. As it turned out, the colony’s officials, who acted as an organized criminal group, were directly involved in these crimes.
According to the investigation, almost all newly arrived convicts became victims of the torturers. Immediately upon arrival, they were forced to clean the floor of their cell, after which they were beaten and humiliated until they completely obeyed the administration.
- One of the prisoners died from his injuries.
- One of the victims was beaten over 200 times with fists, kicks, rubber batons and sticks.
- Convicts were beaten, their hands twisted, and subjected to other tortures in case of any refusal to follow orders.
Currently, five prison employees have been reported under suspicion under Part 3 of Article 28 (organized group) and Part 2 of Article 127 (torture) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The group leader is also suspected under Part 2 of Article 121 (intentional grievous bodily harm).
They face up to 10 years in prison for these crimes.
The scandal may become even bigger as the investigation continues.
