The average salary in the public sector in Ukraine as of May 2024 reached 50.9 thousand hryvnias, which is 32% more than in January this year. In January, the average income of officials was 38.6 thousand hryvnias.

This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, publishing the relevant data on its official website. According to the information provided, the salary structure includes vacation allowances and material assistance.

Growth of the average salary in Ukraine

According to Danylo Hetmantsev, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Finance Committee, the average salary in Ukraine increased by 17.5% in 2023. However, the real growth was only slightly more than 4% due to inflation, devaluation of the national currency, and rising prices for goods and utilities, which offset income growth.

Experts note that the average salary level is a conditional indicator. A more objective calculation is the median, which takes into account the distribution of income and is usually 15-30% lower than the arithmetic mean. This is the approach to calculating average salaries used in the EU and the USA to avoid manipulation of statistics.

The National Bank previously stated that the average wage in Ukraine increased significantly in the first quarter of 2024, showing a growth of 22.5%.
