In the Khmelnytskyi region, a repeat offender was sentenced to seven years in prison for stealing a bicycle. According to the regional prosecutor's office, the crime was committed again, and this is the man's seventh conviction.
The incident occurred in March 2025 near a store in the Khmelnytskyi community. A local resident left his bicycle near the store, and when he went out, he saw an unknown person trying to escape on his two-wheeled vehicle. The man did not respond to calls to stop and disappeared.
Law enforcement officers quickly identified the thief and detained him in Khmelnytskyi. During the investigation, it turned out that the value of the bicycle exceeded 20 thousand hryvnias. The property was returned to the owner.
The perpetrator already had six previous convictions and spent more than seven years behind bars. The court, taking into account the recidivism and repetition of the crime, sentenced him to seven years in prison. He will be in custody until the sentence becomes final.
This case shows once again: even a seemingly minor crime can result in a real sentence if it concerns a person with a criminal past.
