According to the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a 29-year-old resident of Horodok was exposed in the Lviv region, who from June to September organized a scheme to steal and sell other people's accounts in the Telegram and WhatsApp messengers through darknet forums.
According to the investigation, the man had previously purchased software that allowed him to gain full access to other people's accounts and steal confidential information. Having gained control over the profiles, the real owners no longer had access to their accounts and could not control the distribution of information through them. In the future, the attacker planned to sell the stolen accounts on relevant Internet platforms.
At least three Lviv residents are known to have been affected. The man was reported on suspicion of unauthorized interference in the work of information and communication systems. Investigative actions are ongoing, law enforcement officers are identifying all those involved in the scheme and the circumstances of the crime.
