A horrific incident occurred in the village of Shubkiv, Rivne district: a man, overcome with jealousy, doused himself, his wife, and his car with gasoline, then set everything on fire. As a result of the tragedy, he died, and the woman was hospitalized with severe burns.
According to police, the incident occurred on July 19 at around 9:30 p.m. A 44-year-old local resident drove a VAZ 2107 to pick up his 41-year-old wife from work. On the way home, the man drove into a field, where a jealous argument broke out between them. In a fit of aggression, he fastened the woman's seat belt, then doused her, himself, and the car interior with gasoline and set it on fire.
Despite severe injuries, the victim managed to get out of the burning car. She extinguished the flames by jumping into a puddle and made it to the road on her own, where fellow villagers noticed her and called an ambulance. The woman was hospitalized in intensive care with burns to 70% of her body. The man was also taken to the hospital, but he could not be saved - he died.
The police opened criminal proceedings on the fact of attempted murder committed with particular cruelty (Part 2 of Article 15, Clause 4 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
