Australian boxer of Russian origin Tim Tszyu intervened in the race for the WBC world title in light middleweight, intercepting his opponent Sergey Bohachuk and leading to the cancellation of the fight.
Bogachuk was scheduled to face Sebastian Fundora on March 30 in Las Vegas for the vacant WBC super middleweight title. However, the American pulled out of the fight two weeks before the scheduled fight. Instead, Tszyu decided to fight Bogachuk for the WBO title after his original opponent, Keith Thurman, was injured in training.
The organizers of the event decided to organize a fight for Bogachuk for the interim WBC title against American Brian Mendoza.
It is worth noting that Tszyu, Fundora, and Mendoza work with the same promotion company – PBC.
Serhiy Bogachuk himself, a 28-year-old Ukrainian boxer, has an impressive professional record of 23 wins, all by knockout. The Ukrainian's only loss came in 2021 to Brandon Adams from the United States.
