In Kyiv, a drunk driver hit a military woman and fled the scene of the accident

A 44-year-old woman was detained in the capital after she hit a 23-year-old servicewoman while heavily intoxicated and tried to avoid responsibility, Kyiv police reported.

The accident occurred on the evening of September 13 at the intersection of Kharkiv Highway and Bratslavska Street in Darnytskyi District. According to the investigation, the driver of the Volkswagen ignored a red traffic light and hit a girl who was crossing the road on a green light. After the incident, the woman fled, but was soon found by law enforcement officers and detained in a procedural manner.

During the investigation, the detainee tried to shift the blame onto her husband, claiming that he was allegedly behind the wheel and left the scene of the accident. However, this version was not confirmed. The breathalyzer test showed that the woman was intoxicated - 3.11 ppm, which is more than 15 times the permissible limit.

The injured servicewoman suffered multiple injuries and is in the hospital.

The driver has been notified of the suspicion. She faces up to three years in prison and a driving ban of three to five years.
