The Transcarpathian Court of Appeals has remanded in custody a minor suspected of committing the particularly brutal murder of a man and the torture of a woman. The court's decision was made after the defense requested a change of the preventive measure to a milder one.
The head of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office, Myroslav Patskan, who heads the group of prosecutors in this case, categorically opposed the mitigation of the measure, emphasizing the particular cruelty of the crime and the need for constant monitoring of the teenager.
The court upheld the first instance court's ruling on the involuntary detention of the minor.
The crime occurred in January 2025. According to the investigation, three defendants, including one minor, while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, brutally killed an acquaintance in the house of one of the detainees. To hide the traces of the crime, they dismembered the man's body and tried to burn it. The dismembered body was kept in the garage for several days until law enforcement officers began an investigation based on a complaint from the wife of the murdered man.
In addition, the suspects tortured a woman, the roommate of one of the accused.
The accused is charged with premeditated murder committed by a group of people in a prior conspiracy, torture, bodily harm, illegal possession of narcotics and organization of places for their use. For these crimes, the teenager faces life imprisonment.
The prosecutor sent the indictment to the Tyachiv District Court in July 2025, and the procedure for determining the composition of the court is currently underway.
