In the Rakhiv region, law enforcement officers have uncovered another scheme to illegally smuggle men liable for military service across the state border. According to the police of the Zakarpattia region, the organizer was a 45-year-old resident of the village of Verkhnie Vodyane.
The man set up a scheme to escape to Romania for people who were evading mobilization. According to the investigation, he looked for clients, transported them bypassing checkpoints to one of the settlements in the Rakhiv district, and then drove them on a motorcycle to the border river Tisza. There, the escapees were supposed to swim across to Romania on their own. For such services, the man demanded 8 thousand dollars from one “client.”.
The attacker was detained while attempting to smuggle a 27-year-old resident of Donetsk region. During the search, police seized a car, a motorcycle, cash received for services, and other physical evidence.
The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He is charged with Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — “illegal smuggling of persons across the state border, committed for selfish motives by an organized group or repeatedly.”.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are identifying other possible accomplices to the criminal scheme.
