Another earthquake struck Ukraine this morning, December 15. According to the Main Center for Special Control, the tremors were recorded at 06:12 in the Dunayevets district of the Khmelnytskyi region. According to preliminary parameters, the magnitude was 1.7, and the epicenter was located at a depth of about five kilometers.
Experts note that this type of seismic activity is classified as barely perceptible. For most people, such tremors usually remain imperceptible, although instrument systems record them quite clearly.
The earthquake was the fourth in the past few days. On December 11, seismologists recorded tremors in the Ternopil region with a magnitude of 2.9 - this earthquake was a tangible one. On the evening of December 12, activity was recorded in the Black Sea, 12 kilometers from the Crimean coast, where the magnitude reached 4.4. The next day, December 13, an earthquake occurred in the Dniester district of the Chernivtsi region, its strength was 2.5 points, and it was barely noticeable.
Seismologists emphasize that the series of episodes is not a sign of an approaching strong earthquake, but indicates increased activity in certain areas of the earth's crust. Scientists continue monitoring, and data is promptly transmitted to the relevant services.
Earlier, Dmytro Hryn, a leading researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, drew attention to another aspect of the risks - the condition of buildings after numerous shelling. According to him, many structures in the affected areas have lost part of their seismic resistance, which calls into question their ability to withstand even weak earthquakes of 3-4 points. Experts believe that the problem requires a systematic assessment and individual decisions on strengthening emergency structures.
