Temporary emergency power outages have been introduced in Ukraine. The restrictions apply in four regions – Kyiv, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and the city of Kyiv. From now on, the lights will be turned off without a prior schedule, in emergency mode.
This is stated in a DTEK statement. “Unfortunately, the difficult situation in the power system after the Russian shelling continues. Therefore, on the instructions of Ukrenergo, emergency shutdowns are being applied,” the company notes.
Ukrainians should distinguish between types of power outages, because if you have a power outage, it does not necessarily mean that you will be subject to hourly outages. There are two main power outage regimes in Ukraine:
-emergency outage schedules (EWS), also known as emergency power outages: they are introduced without warning in the event of an emergency power shortage in the power system;
-hourly outage schedules (HWS), also known as stabilization outages or planned outages: they have a clearly defined period of validity and are introduced in the event of a predicted power shortage in the power system.
In Kyiv, for each household consumer, the hours in a day are divided into three categories depending on the electricity supply mode. In the graphs, these categories are color-coded:
-white color: there is light (provided there is no shelling or accidents);
-dark gray color: guaranteed outage (applies to hourly schedules);
-light gray color: possible outages (applies to hourly schedules).
A guaranteed outage lasts up to 4 hours, and electricity is guaranteed for 2 hours. The maximum time without light for each group can reach 18 hours per day, with guaranteed outages totaling 9 to 12 hours per day, depending on the day of the week.
