A new bill has appeared in the Verkhovna Rada, which provides for a ban on the sale of energy drinks to minors and the introduction of fines for their consumption. The document was initiated by deputies from the Servant of the People party, Olena Vintonyak and Maria Mezentseva-Fedorenko.
As the authors explain, the use of energy drinks among young people is rapidly increasing, and their composition — caffeine, sugar, carbon dioxide, taurine — can harm the health of adolescents. That is why the People's Deputies propose making appropriate amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses.
What does draft law No. 13025-1 provide for:
-
Minors are offered a fine of 340–510 UAH for consuming energy drinks or participating in their consumption, and for repeated violations — 510–680 UAH.
-
If energy drinks were used by children aged 14–16, parents will be held responsible: a fine of 255–425 UAH or community service (20–40 hours).
-
For repeated violations, parents will be fined 425–680 UAH.
The goal of the bill is to reduce the consumption of harmful beverages among minors and prevent health problems, including addiction to caffeine and stimulants.
The explanatory note notes that such measures should contribute to the formation of healthy eating habits and reduce the risk of diseases associated with the use of energy drinks.
