The number of criminal proceedings regarding domestic violence in Ukraine decreased by a quarter last year, but unofficial requests for help increased by 9%. This was reported by "Law and Business" with reference to data from Opendatabot.
During 2025, prosecutors opened 1,996 criminal proceedings under the article on domestic violence. This is the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion that there have been fewer official cases. Compared to the same period last year, their number has decreased by 28%.
On average, about 180 cases are registered each month. The peak of applications traditionally falls on the winter holidays: in January of this year, 277 proceedings were opened. A significant part of the cases reach the court - already 79% of the registered criminal proceedings.
At the same time, data from the National Domestic Violence Hotline shows the opposite trend. The number of calls for help increased by 9%. In just three quarters of 2025, more than 35,000 calls were received, 90% of which were related to domestic violence. Among those seeking help, 14% were people over 50.
By type of violence, almost half of the complaints concerned psychological pressure, a third of cases concerned physical violence, 17% of applications were related to economic pressure, and 1.6% to sexual violence. For the second year in a row, every fourth complaint comes from men.
These statistics demonstrate that, despite the decrease in the number of criminal proceedings, the problem of domestic violence remains relevant, and the need for psychological and social support is high.
