This year, the gross production of grains and oilseeds will be about 74 million tons, of which about 52.4 million tons of grains and 21.7 million tons of oilseeds. This will mean a drop of about 10% compared to the 2023 harvest, which was 82 million tons. This is stated in the preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
It is predicted that this year farmers will be able to harvest the following amounts of grain: wheat - 19.2 million tons (last year 22.2 million tons were harvested), barley - 4.9 million tons (last year - 5.7 million tons), and corn - 26.7 million tons (there were 30.5 million tons).
Among oilseeds, an increase in soybean production is forecast - production is expected to reach 5.2 million tons, with 4.7 million tons harvested in 2023. Sunflower production is forecast at 12.4 million tons, with 12.9 million tons harvested last year. Rapeseed is forecast to harvest 4.1 million tons, with 4.7 million tons harvested last year.
The sown area of grain and leguminous crops is forecast at 10.6 million hectares (-395 thousand hectares compared to 2023). Of these, winter wheat is sown on 4.3 million hectares (-0.3 million hectares), spring wheat is expected to be 0.2 million hectares (+0.2 thousand hectares). Winter barley is sown on 0.47 million hectares (-0.15 million hectares), spring barley is forecast at 0.94 million hectares (+0.06 million hectares), corn – 3.9 million hectares (-62 thousand hectares).
At the same time, among oilseeds, the area sown with soybeans is increasing. It is predicted that it will be sown on an area of 2.2 million hectares - almost 400 thousand hectares more than last year. It is predicted that sunflower will be sown on almost the same amount as last year - on 5.3 million hectares. Rapeseed on 1.5 million hectares, which is 0.1 million hectares less than last year.
