President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed laws extending martial law and general mobilization. They will remain in effect until at least August 6, 2025. This was reported by the Glavkom publication, citing official draft laws No. 13172 and No. 13173.
The president signed the relevant documents on Friday, April 18. This is the fifteenth consecutive extension of martial law and mobilization since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
The documents provide that from May 9, the special legal regime will be extended for 90 days, that is, until August 6, 2025.
As a reminder, on April 16, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the relevant bills. 357 MPs voted in their support, while the only vote against was cast by Oleksiy Honcharenko from the European Solidarity faction.
Martial law is a special legal regime that provides for the expansion of the powers of the military command, restrictions on certain constitutional rights, and the possibility of involving the population in defense tasks. Martial law also allows the introduction of military administrations, curfews, travel restrictions, and other measures.
At the same time, general mobilization has been extended, allowing the conscription of Ukrainian citizens liable for military service between the ages of 18 and 60. Those who have legal grounds for deferment or exclusion from military registration are not subject to conscription.
