Instructions on how to protect yourself from fraud and what to do if you become a victim of it

In Ukraine, fraudsters are increasingly using telephone fraud and phishing methods to gain access to citizens' confidential banking data. The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine warns about these dangerous methods and provides recommendations on how to protect against such attacks.

Main fraud schemes:

  1. Telephone fraud
Scammers call, pretending to be bank employees, and claim that there are problems with your card or account. They urgently demand to provide confidential information, such as CVV code, one-time password via SMS or even login and password for online banking. Often such calls are accompanied by psychological pressure so that the victim does not have time to think about the situation.
  2. Phishing
Fraudsters send fake emails, SMS or instant messages that look like official letters from banks or other financial institutions. They suggest clicking on a link that takes you to a fake website that looks like a real one. On such sites, they ask you to enter your banking details, which leads to information theft.

How to protect yourself from scammers:

  1. Do not disclose CVV code or one-time passwords – Bank employees do not have the right to request this data over the phone or via message.
  2. Check sites – Make sure you enter payment details only on official bank websites where the domain has a corresponding address without errors.
  3. Ignore suspicious messages – If SMS or emails are questionable or contain grammatical errors, do not open the link.
  4. Be careful with calls – If you receive a call from a supposedly bank, it is better to end the conversation and call the institution on the official number.

What to do if you have disclosed your data:

  1. Call the bank urgently – Report the situation and request that the account or funds be blocked.
  2. Block suspicious transactions – If the money has already been debited, ask the bank to block unauthorized transactions.
  3. Contact the cyber police – Report the incident via the feedback form or by calling 0 800 505 170.
  4. Check your accounts – Regularly check your transaction history in your online banking and report any suspicious activity to your bank.

By applying these simple rules, you significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of fraud and protect your finances from possible losses.
