Instructions on how to protect yourself from fraud and what to do if you become a victim

In Ukraine, fraudsters are increasingly using phone fraud and phishing methods to gain access to citizens' confidential banking data. The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine warns about these dangerous methods and provides recommendations for protection against such attacks.

The main fraud schemes:

  1. Phone fraud
Fraudsters call pretending to be bank employees and claim there is a problem with your card or account. They urgently require confidential information such as a CVV code, a one-time SMS password or even an online banking login and password. Often, such calls are accompanied by psychological pressure so that the victim does not have time to think about the situation.
  2. Phishing
Fraudsters send fake e-mails, SMS or instant messages that look like official requests from banks or other financial institutions. They offer to follow a link that leads to a fake website that looks like the real thing. Such sites ask for bank details, which leads to information theft.

How to protect yourself from fraudsters:

  1. Do not share your CVV code or one-time passwords - Bank employees are not allowed to ask for these details over the phone or via text message.
  2. Check sites – Make sure you only enter your payment details on official bank sites where the domain has a matching address without errors.
  3. Ignore suspicious messages – If SMS or emails are suspicious or contain grammatical errors, do not open the link.
  4. Be careful with calls - If you receive a call from an alleged bank, it is better to end the conversation and call the institution on the official number.

What to do if you disclose your data:

  1. Urgently call the bank - Report the situation and request the blocking of the account or funds.
  2. Block suspicious transactions – If money has already been debited, ask your bank to block unauthorized transactions.
  3. Contact the cyber police – Report an incident via the feedback form or by calling 0 800 505 170.
  4. Check your accounts – Regularly check your online banking history and report any suspicious activity to your bank.

By applying these simple rules, you significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of fraud and protect your finances from possible losses.
